Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of 2009

Games_combo

Behold the 11 games that we're looking forward to the most in 2009. Yes, 11. Because 2009 is going to be one louder.

In choosing the games that should make waves this year, Game|Life contributors Nate Ralph, Earnest Cavalli, Chris Baker and I made sure to select titles that we were personally excited about.

The types of games that pack the most appeal will naturally be different for each of us. For example, Nate is too young to remember Punch-Out!!, but when I get the Wii version of the game, I am going to tear open the shrink-wrap with my teeth.

We also tried to constrain this list to games that will actually come out this year. So no Alan Wake, no God of War III and certainly no Duke Nukem Forever.

With these factors in mind, we present the 11 most anticipated games of 2009. Time to sharpen your incisors.

Punch-Out!! (Wii)

This revival of Nintendo's classic puzzle-sports-rhythmic-punching game has been a very long time coming. The original is probably my favorite 8-bit game ever, and no boxing game has ever been as much fun. Probably because Punch-Out!! never had anything to do with boxing. It was about perfecting your twitch reactions while trying not to fall over laughing at the ridiculous ethnic stereotype cartoons that served as your opponents.

Punch-Out!! for Wii will continue that storied tradition: Watch the croissants fly from Glass Joe as he's knocked to the canvas. Will the addictive gameplay be as perfectly replicated? I hope and pray that it will. The game might go off the rails if it makes too much use of Wii waggle controls and feels too much like a Wii Fit exercise minigame. But the return of Punch-Out!! is reason enough to get excited. — Chris Kohler

Infamous

Infamous (PlayStation 3)

Fact: Sucker Punch makes excellent action games -- the Sly Cooper series was a great addition to Sony's PlayStation 2 lineup. Fact: Grand Theft Auto plus superpowers can equal an amazing experience — I don't think I need to remind anyone of Crackdown.

Sucker Punch is billing Infamous as the ultimate superhero simulator, a game that lets you choose your path, saving the city or wreaking destruction. I'm really interested to see how the story plays out and how the open world environment is used — is it just window dressing for your destructive amusement, or will you really feel like the most powerful being in a living, breathing world? We know so little about how Infamous will play, but as it is likely to be Sony's marquee title for 2009, I imagine we will be hearing a lot about it. — Chris Kohler

Thelost12

Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and the Damned (Xbox 360)

I'm sick of hanging out with Niko Bellic. I mean, I know he had a rough adolescence in Serbia and all, but that can only excuse so much murderous, sociopathic behavior. But man, oh man, I sure do miss kicking it in Liberty City. What a place! The sights, the sounds, the insane stunt jumps and plentiful rocket launchers! I'm itching for the chance to visit again, this time in the company of grizzled biker Johnny Klebitz.

The new Xbox 360 downloadable expansion to GTA IV offers a lengthy new narrative, and upgrades my favorite virtual metropolis with new weapons, missions, vehicles and multiplayer modes. What's that you say? Klebitz is probably a murderous sociopath just like Niko? Yeah, well ... as long as he doesn't have an annoying cousin that's always phoning him, I think I can put up with that. — Chris Baker

Resi_evil_5

Resident Evil 5 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360)

Until we zombie purists convince George Romero to open a game development studio, Capcom Entertainment is our best substitute in the pixelized fight against the undead. Metal Gear Solid 4-level visual polish, a nicely modified strain of the Resident Evil 4 control scheme, online co-operative multiplayer and the woefully underrepresented setting of the African Savannah all indicate that Resident Evil 5 almost has to be something special.

Honestly, I'm just giddy for a chance to pop off heavy munitions into the brains of some undead foes. At the end of a long workday, nothing is more satisfying than the wholesale slaughter of shambling hordes. — Earnest Cavalli

Beatles660

The Beatles Game (Multiplatform)

We don't know what it'll look like, how it'll play or even what it'll be called. But Harmonix's collaboration with The Beatles is the odds-on favorite to be the biggest thing to happen to videogames, and maybe even music, in 2009.

The creators of Guitar Hero and Rock Band have turned millions of gamers into faux rockers with plastic instruments, letting non-musicians experience the joy of jamming. And what better way to put on a show in your living room than with the legendary music of the greatest band of all time? Harmonix is forgoing Rock Band 3 this year to concentrate its efforts on re-creating the Fab Four's music in interactive form. Even if this were just downloadable content for Rock Band, it would be one of the best things to happen this year. As a standalone game, it'll be unstoppable. (As long as Harmonix includes an option to sing the entire B side of Abbey Road without stopping, I'll be happy.) — Chris Kohler

Dawnwar1

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II (Windows)

For more than two decades, the tabletop game Warhammer 40,000 has captivated countless fans with relentless miniature figurine battles waged between hyper-religious superhuman space fascists, space Orks, space Elves and savage, genetically engineered insect-things that are also from space.

The transition to the real-time strategy genre on the PC went fairly well, but the onset of sequel-itis has left the original Dawn of War looking a bit tired. Fortunately, Relic Entertainment is bringing players back to the basics with Dawn of War II — namely, control of small, elite squads embroiled in close-quarters combat, with a number of traditional RPG mechanics rolled in. Dawn of War's gleefully excessive brutality and visual flair have been revamped, adding tantalizing levels of detail to the act of vigorously throttling enemy units before hurling them through the air like a large, wet sack. There will also be bits of traditional base-building and resource gathering on the multiplayer side of things, but confess: We're all really in it for jetpacks and chainsaw-swords. — Nate Ralph

BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC)

I'm anticipating this game in the sense that I'm anxiously holding my breath. 2K says that BioShock can be its Star Wars, meaning that this episode could be as awesome as The Empire Strikes Back. But the original BioShock worked so well because it had such a unique story. Will a trip back into the world of Big Daddies and Little Sisters be as interesting this time around, now that we've already experienced it?

More worrisome than that: Will the fact that Ken Levine and 2K Boston are passing off development to the new 2K Marin studio in Northern California change things? Developing the BioShock sequel is a tall order for a rookie developer. The original's blend of intelligent political commentary and riveting human drama had me hooked, and I'd fall in love with a game that managed to recapture that feeling. I can't wait to find out if Sea of Dreams can pull it off. — Chris Kohler

Darkvoid

Dark Void (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows)

Gears of War's cover system is getting a bit tired these days, so when I heard at E3 that Capcom's upcoming shooter Dark Void lifts it, I had to stop myself from yawning. But then the developer giving the demo twisted the camera angle to reveal that we weren't walking down some dark hallway blasting enemies — we were flying up the side of a tower, leaping from cover point to cover point courtesy of a very Rocketeer-ish jetpack.

Moments later, the protagonist leaped off the side of the tower, cutting a beeline toward a wildly maneuvering metal disc. Try as it might, the disc couldn't get out of his path, and when he alighted on top of the frame, a familiar sequence of button presses popped up just as they might in God of War. Triangle, X, Square and the craft's pilot had been beaten soundly and thrown from the disc — only to have his ride hijacked, Grand Theft Auto-style, by our hero. Three minutes of gameplay and Dark Void had cemented itself in my mind as the sleeper hit of 2009. — Earnest Cavalli

Starfcraft2

StarCraft II (Windows, Mac)

Let's review: The original StarCraft, released in March of 1998, was one of the deepest, best balanced, most addictive real-time strategy games ever made. It had three richly varied races, an actual story and near-limitless potential for strategic variations. Now, Blizzard Entertainment — a developer that has never released a bad game — is finishing up a sequel with gorgeous graphics, new unit types and abilities, and improved online matchmaking.

What's not to anticipate about StarCraft II? I mean, except for the fact that I'll be losing my job and my friends and getting scurvy because the game will end up devouring every waking moment of my life. Some people are griping because Blizzard has already announced plans to hold back some content for expansion packs. But come on, do you really think you won't get your money's worth? People are still playing the original, 11 years later. — Chris Baker

Top 10 Reasons Men and Women Have Sex

Top Ten Reasons Men and Women Have Sex

Do you ever wonder why people have sex? You may think the answer to that question is obvious, but a recent research study reveals that there are at least 237 reasons to have sex.
The study, titled “Why Humans Have Sex” was written by Cindy M. Meston and David M. Buss; Department of Psychology, University of Texas at Austin. The original paper is 31 pages long and identifies 237 reasons for having sex., The authors preface the study by stating that the varied reasons that people have sex is an important, but little studied topic. They state that the reason for the lack of study is that scientists assume that they already know the answer to the question of why humans have sex. In 1989 Leigh documented seven reasons for having sex, including pure pleasure, expression of emotional closeness, to reproduce children, to please a partner, partner wants it, conquest, and relieve sexual tension.

http://media.rd.com/rd/images/rdc/books/7-stages-of-marriage/ultimate-sex-guide-for-newlyweds-af.jpg

The goal of the study at the Sexual Psychophysiology Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin was to improve understanding of human sexuality. The study analyzed behavioral, psychological, physiological and biological perspectives.
The researchers studied four large factors and 13 sub factors. The Physical sub factors included stress reduction, experience seeking and physical desirability. Goal Attainment sub factors included Resources, Revenge, Social Status and Utilitarian. Insecurity sub factors included Duty/Pressure, Mate Guarding and Self-Esteem Boost. Emotion sub factors included Love and Commitment and Expression.
The complete report lists 237 reasons for having sex, ranked in popularity and separated by gender. The reasons for having sex were analyzed by gender and linked with personality traits.
MEN

1. I was attracted to the person
2. I wanted to experience the physical pleasure.
3. It feels good.
4. I wanted to show my affection to the person.
5. I wanted to express my love to the person.
6. I was sexually aroused and wanted the release.
7. I was “horny”.
8. It is fun.
9. I realized I was in love.
10. I was “In the heat of the moment”.
WOMEN

1. I was attracted to the person.
2. It feels good.
3. I wanted to experience the physical pleasure.
4. It is fun.
5. I wanted to show my affection to the person.
6. I was sexually aroused and wanted the release.
7. I was “horny”.
8. I wanted to express my love for the person.
9. I wanted to achieve an orgasm.
10. I wanted to please my partner.
The most endorsed reasons for having sex for both men and women appeared in the following themes: attraction, experience of physical pleasure, expression of love, feeling desired by the other person, to escalate the depth of the relationship, curiosity, special occasion, opportunity and uncontrollable circumstances.
On the other end of the spectrum are the least endorsed reasons for having sex. The least popular reason to have sex are included in five broad themes, including: to harm a person (either partner or a rival, to give someone a sexually transmitted disease, to get something (money, job, promotion, gift, drugs), social statue/popularity, as a means to an end such as getting rid of a headache and out of a sense of duty.
While you may know why you want to have sex, it is good to think about why the other person wants to have sex. If, for example, their motivation is conquest or anger, you might want to reconsider. While spreading a sexually transmitted disease it not a popular reason to have sex, it is scary that it is on the list at all. If there are problems in your sex life, it may be beneficial to examine your own motivations, as well.
While this is interesting research, the fact remains that people who want to have sex probably aren’t spending a lot of time analyzing their feelings about it.

The 10 Most Hated Celebrities of 2008

1. Paris Hilton (66 votes)
- People continue to hate on Paris even though she didn’t do anything all that despicable in 2008. Miss Hilton had a ho-hum year considering some of the more shocking things that happened to her last year, when she spent time in prison for being a drunk-driving mess. David Letterman had a great time making fun of her on his show early in the year and even former Presidential candidate John McCain used her in one of his campaign ads to compare Barack Obama’s sudden fame to that of Hilton’s talentless ride to the top. It does seem that she was beaten down pretty bad while she was dating the scum that is Benji Madden for most of 2008. To cap the year off thieves stole more than $2 million dollars of jewelry from her home in December. It’s easy to hate someone in this economy that is keeping that much jewelry at their home. She repeats as the ‘Most Hated Celeb’ of the year, having won Bumpshack’s inaugural ‘Most Hated Celeb’s award back in 2006. We love you Paris! -

2. Spencer Pratt/Heidi Montag (60 votes) --> INI GW SETUJU !!!!
- Seriously, do we need a reason to hate these two? Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag are the most pimped out couple to come out of MTV’s pseudo-reality show “The Hills” and they couldn’t be any faker. From fake virginity, fake boobs, fake pregnancy, fake marriage to the most unbelievable quotes and publicity stunts, they are the lowest low of American society. We always see them out doing nothing but posing for the cameras and we often realize there couldn’t be two people more perfect for each other. They are both so futile and have absolutely no brains at all, we hope they live happily ever after in their pseudo world of flash bulbs and tabloid headlines

3. Madonna (53 votes)
- Here is the issue with Madonna. You are either a die hard fan or the thought of her is like nails on a chalk board. This is a woman who was an iconic figure that fearlessly pioneered trends, but recently fell into a vast pit of desperation. Whether she is trying to pass off a faux British accent or dominate the world via Britney Spears…this is a creature that feels she can do no wrong. So, we are her minions and her sad attempts at recapturing her youth involve young male models named Jesus. Sounds like a perfectly good match made in egotistical heaven

4. Tom Cruise (50 votes)
- He has tried to apologize and rectify his media mistakes in 2008, but it was all to no avail. Despite his countless recent interviews from Oprah to The Hills After Show, his loony antics of years past (jumping on Oprah’s couch, calling out Brooke Shields, insulting Matt Lauer and pushing his cult on America) pretty much sealed his demise. As we revisited his 25th anniversary in Hollywood this year, we all realized that he is a long way gone from classics like Risky Business, Top Gun & Rain Man. Sorry, Tom… Valkyrie just ain’t cuttin’ it these days. Your Interview With the Vampire co-star Brad Pitt still has our hearts, and you don’t even have our pity. But hey, keep your chin up- you did produce a freakishly cute child. Tom is only the second celebrity to make both this list and the ‘Most Hated Celebs’ list from two years ago

5. John Mayer (44 votes)
- John Mayer is man who has made it his quest in life to annoy and remain relevant by press whoring himself with Hollywood women. His current victim is Jennifer Aniston which just amplifies his level of smug. If he isn’t out drumming up some exposure for himself, he is *****ing about the media via his blog. John’s talent is outshined by his superiority complex and self worshiping. Most women are begging for men to open up about their feelings, but this is one guy I wish would shut the hell up already.

6. Kanye West (32 votes)
- All hail Kanye West, “the voice of this generation.” Kanye West, we hear you talking but no one is listening. If he really is the voice of this generation then we are all doomed. Kanye’s arrogance is unbelievably annoying almost as much as his crying and childish temper tantrums he throws at award shows when he does not win. Graduation to maturity seems to be something that even Kanye can’t sample. Even George W. Bush hates Kanye.

7. O.J. Simpson (29 votes)
- What’s there to say about O.J. this year, other than the fact every human being in the world belives justice was finally delivered, albeit fourteen years later than it should have been. While he walked free after being acquitted of charges of double homicide following the 1994 murders of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and friend Ron Goldman, Simpson has been staring at the inside of a correctional facility since his October 3, 2008 conviction for numerous felonies including robbery with a deadly weapon and burglary with a firearm. His conviction for the crimes will lock O.J. away for the next fifteen years. What happens in Las Vegas in-fact doesn’t always stay in Las Vegas for the token-busty blonde abuser. Nicole Simpson and Goldman unfortunately can’t pen a book with the title “If We Were Murdered”. If they could, I’m sure that they’d be able to sway you as to why O.J. is so hated.

8. Perez Hilton (28 votes)
- Perez has somehow made a name for himself by drawing on pictures and outing homosexuals. His sense of humor is bad lately too…I used to think he was funny, but now I think he’s just crude. How many pictures of celebrities do we need to see with bodily fluids dripping off of their faces? Give the facial art a rest big girl. Lately, paparazzi photos have appeared with him in them as the celebrity or sidekick, and he has taken every opportunity to flaunt them on his site. As if someone really wants to see what he really looks like. Okay, maybe I’m just jealous that he can charge $54,000 for ads on his site.

9. Rosie O’Donnell (26 votes)
- This “woman” is plague on society. Rosie use to shine on her own talk show back in the day. It was a hit and I even enjoyed watching it back in the 90’s. Her career has been steadily going downhill since then. Rosie is nuts! After she bombed ‘The View”‘, I thought we would finally be rid of Rosie. But, NO! She had to try once again to win over America and this time she barely got her foot in the door. NBC tried her out on a pathetic variety show, ‘Rosie Live’. America screamed back by not watching and giving the show the worst ratings of the night. The show was quickly dropped and that was that. We have had enough of this frumpy, overbearing eyesore that just won’t go away.

10. Denise Richards (23 votes)
- Her reality TV show, ‘It’s Complicated,’ made her look so bad that most of us, who were unfortunate to watch it, finally started to actually see why Charlie Sheen might have been banging every stripper this side of Encino while he was married to the self absorbed and shallow Richards. Denise is so hated that she made Charlie look like the good guy in their split and that is no small accomplishment. She should be eternally grateful to whoever did the casting for her role in ‘Wild Things’ which made her famous and for reality TV for extending said fame an additional 15 minutes.

10 Hottest Bikini Babes of 2008

http://indiancelebs.co.in/wp-content/kareena-kapoor.JPG
Kareena Kapoor in Tashan

It's the time to crown the Numero Uno,
Friends, put your hands together for the Size-Zeroed and Tashan-able Kareena Kapoor (as if you didn't know!)

Let's confess that we did become a victim of 'skin-tillating' Kareena Kapoor, who, not just justified, but also glorified the art of flaunting a bikini in the much-publicized film Tashan.

It was indeed sad to see the film fall down with a thud, with the same velocity it was hyped to the skies!

Needless to say that, Kareena rocked in many ways than one, including her Size Zero act and the 'eye-candylicious' swimsuit do! You really rocked the scene, Bebo!

Priyanka Chopra in Dostana
Whenever she goes out to shop, everybody shout 'Me Too Me Too"
We are indeed talking about the 'Friendly' Priyanka Chopra who's at 2!

For those who went to see Dostana to check out the double whammy jodi of the happy and gay couple of John-Abhishek...were actually in for a double whammy of the 'other kind'.

It was in the form of the swimsuit act by Dostana's leading lady Priyanka Chopra! The actress flaunted her toned body like never before. And surely made everyone stand up and take notice of her 'Golden Swimwear'.

Mugdha Godse in Fashion
They say 'Nothing in the world is free',
We say, 'Who cares! As far as we get even a glimpse of the Fashion-able Mugdha at 3!

It's not that everyday that you get to become the 'show-stopper' of your debut film itself!

But Bollywood's latest sweetheart Mugdha Godse, dared to defy this saying with her true-to-thou bikini act in the smash hit film Fashion, directed by none other than Mr. 'Reality' himself: Madhur Bhandarkar!

Bollywood heroines generally have huge inhibitions to shed their clothes in their debut film, but Mugdha not just dared to be different, but also, gave a true-to-life performance in Fashion. Proof of which can be seen in the swimsuit round that got prime rotation amongst the prime channels!

Minissha Lamba in Kidnap
We are sure that, a mere glance at her and your dil will maange more,
For she's Minissha Lamba...Kidnap-ing your eyeballs at 4!

They say that big surprises come in small packages. If we had it our way, then, we would have surely rephrased the same as 'Big surprise comes in Mini (ssha) packages', courtesy her jaw-drooping and jaw-dropping swimsuit act in the much-publicized film Kidnap.

The film just did not live up to what was expected of it, but it did make everyone take notice of Minissha's dare-bare bit!

Her emerging out of the ice-cold water in her hot white bikini was quite a steamy combination! Way to go, Minissha!

Shilpa Shetty in Dostana
Humans lose their way home; the way bees lose the way to their hive
When they look at the Bouncing Shilpa Shetty, who is at 5!

Since the time she made her debut in the smash hit Baazigar, this 'Miss Long Legs' has been in the news for some reason or the other.

Lately, it's been her 'Big Brother' episode, her 'power-packed' yoga DVDs or her scintillating swimwear show in Dostana-the massive hit of 2008, with which this girl has surely 'bounced' her way to the top!

Even though Miss Shetty was seen in a special appearance in Dostana in the 'Shut Up And Bounce' track, her presence doubled up as a neatly packaged present to all the cine goers!

Celina Jaitly in Money Hai Toh Honey Hai
Whenever life puts you in a tight spot or a fix,
Look at brighter side of life remembering the curvaceous Celina at 6!

For starters, Celina Jaitly is that special someone, looking at whom, not just the toughest of glaciers melt down, but also the hardest of the rocks crumble like a pack of cookies... all in her honour!

Even though MHTHH did not do wonders at the Box-Office, what surely grabbed our attention was her bikini act in the film.

Mallika Sherawat in Ugly Aur Pagli
She's someone whose mere smile will make you experience heaven,
Put your hands together for Mallika Sherawat who's at 7!

And here comes Madame M....Mallika Sherawat! Before the good news, let's tell you the sad news first. The news is that, even though the whole of 2008 saw many a top slot heroines and even wannabes in their 'bikini-cious' best, Madame M was sorely missed and how!

But, guys do not fret for she is THE Mallika Sherawat! So what if the beaches and swimming pools were over crowded, Madame M chose to not just write her own rules but also walk her own path!

For the deprived lot, relief came in the form of Sachin Khot's debut film Ugly Aur Pagli. Even though the film's shoot did not have a swimsuit to suit Madame's persona', she still left the audiences gasping for breath with her dressed to thrill and kill kind of dress!

Ameesha in Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic
We no longer can hold, we no longer can wait,
To see Thoda Water Poori Hotter babe Ameesha at 8!

She didn't just drop a bombshell by dropping her surname; she also dropped her inhibitions by sporting a swimsuit in the box-office disaster Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic.

Even though the film ducked at the box-office, Ameesha's performance in the film emerged unscathed and untouched by the critics' swords and words!

Sameer Reddy in Race
For us, a sea food lunch with this hottie will be just fine
Friends, presenting Sameera Reddy Race-ing her way at 9!

Here is one helluva' of a girl, who after having waited for long for someone to blow the whistle and shout 'Reddy steady go', did win the 'Race' early this year with her swim suit act opposite the 'Never say old' actor Anil Kapoor!

Even though the film went onto to be one of the early hits of the year 2008, Sameera still has to find her place under the Bollywood sun!

Hansika Motwani in Money Hai Toh Honey Hai
She takes to water the way ink takes to a pen
For she is none other than Bollywood's' Honey Hansika at 10!

This child actress-turned-heroine Hansika, who was one of the scene stealers in Koi Mil Gaya, was back in the news the whole of last year with her full-fledged heroine's role in Aap Ka Suroor, in which she was paired opposite Himesh Reshammiya, nonetheless!

This year, all that she did was to emerge out of the waters (literally) in the forgettable flick Money Hai Tho Honey Hai, in a swim suit, even though her swim in Bollywood this year did neither suit nor shoot the Box-Office collections!

Global Financial Crisis

The financial crisis of 2008 was uncompromising in its destruction of reputations and unsparing in its treatment of investors, many of whom were blown on the rocks by the forces that ripped through markets. The meltdown sent shock waves across the world, with economy after economy gasping for breath. India too felt the impact; people here felt the pain of plunging stock markets. Rise in the number of job cuts will also continue to haunt people in 2009.

The Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement will address the country's energy needs by enabling it to access civil nuclear cooperation from the US and other countries.

Abhinav Bindra Wins Olympic Gold

2008 was truly a memorable year for Indian sport. Shooter Abhinav Bindra scripted history by winning India its first individual Olympic gold medal. Bindra totalled 700.5 points to win the men's 10m air rifle title on August 11. The gold wasn't, however, Abhinav's only achievement in Beijing. The Indian, who was out of action with a career-threatening spinal injury since 2006, actually proved that the country had the capability to produce champions in Olympic sports other than hockey.

Flood Wreak Havoc

Every once in a while, nature reminds humans that it is the boss. The Kosi river, which gathers water from some of the world's highest mountains, changed its course in 2008, going back to a course it had abandoned more than 300 years ago. Its fury struck Bihar with a vengeance leading to one of the worst floods in Indian history after a breach in its embankment in Nepal. Many lives were lost and the state witnessed one of the largest human evacuations in the world.

The people of India must send a message to all politicians- Rise against regionalism and treat all as Indians.

10 HOTTEST MOMENTS IN JESSICA ALBA HISTORY

For Jessica Alba, getting through daily life must really be a daily struggle. How she manages to wake up every morning, see herself naked in the mirror and mange to leave the house or get anything done is beyond me. If I was Jessica Alba I would put one of those ceiling mirrors over my bed, never wear any clothes and ... well, touch myself all day long.
